Whether it’s your child’s first class or their fiftieth, here are the things parents most often ask us. If your question isn’t answered here, please reach out anytime — artsmartprogram@yahoo.com or (781) 910-5880.
Before the Class
What should my child wear?
Something comfortable that’s okay to get messy. We paint, we sculpt, we cook — art happens and so do splatters. Closed-toe shoes work best, especially in the ceramic and culinary studios. Aprons are provided.
Does my child need to bring anything?
For most classes, no — all materials are included. Vacation camps and longer sessions: bring a water bottle and a snack (nut-free, please). If a specific class requires anything extra, it’ll be noted in the registration.
What time should we arrive?
A few minutes early is perfect. It gives your child a moment to settle in, say hi, and find their spot before we get started.
Should I stay or drop off?
Most classes are drop-off, and we love that parents trust us with that time. There’s a comfortable waiting area if you’d rather stay, and you’re welcome to do either. For younger children or a first-time visit, many parents stay for the first class and see how their child feels.
Arrival & Parking
Where do I park?
We’re at 1429 Main St, Walpole, MA 02081. Street parking is available along Main Street, and there’s additional parking nearby. Follow the signs for Art Smart Program.
What if we’re running late?
It happens. Come in whenever you arrive — we’ll fold your child right into what we’re working on. A quick text to (781) 910-5880 is appreciated so we know to expect you.
During the Class
How many kids are in a class?
We keep groups small on purpose. Most classes run 6–12 children, which lets us give every child real attention and keeps the room calm and focused.
What ages do you work with?
Most classes are designed for children roughly ages 5 to 14, with program-specific age groupings. Adult classes are available too. If you’re unsure whether a particular class is a good fit for your child, just ask.
What if my child is shy, or having a hard day?
That’s okay, and it’s something we understand deeply. Donna is a licensed mental health counselor and board-certified art therapist — she’s spent 25+ years helping kids feel safe expressing themselves, at their own pace, in their own way. Some kids jump in immediately; others watch for the first half and join when they’re ready. Both are welcome here.
What about allergies and food?
Please let us know about any allergies at registration or before class. In culinary classes we work with common ingredients (flour, dairy, eggs, sugar, fruit) — if there’s something to avoid, tell us and we’ll adjust. Nut-free is our default.
Photos & social media
Occasionally we take photos of the classroom in action. These are sometimes shared on our website or Google Business Profile so other families can see what we do. If you’d prefer your child not be photographed, just tell us — no reason needed, and it won’t affect anything about the class.
After the Class
When can my child bring their artwork home?
Paintings and drawings usually go home the same day. Ceramic pieces need time to dry and be fired in the kiln — we’ll let you know when yours is ready for pickup, typically within 1–2 weeks.
Will you tell me how the class went?
Always happy to. If anything comes up that a parent should know about, we’ll reach out directly. And you’re welcome to ask us anytime.
Rescheduling & Cancellations
What if my child is sick the day of?
Please don’t send a sick child to class — we’ll work with you on rescheduling or applying the fee to a future class whenever possible. Just let us know by email or phone as early as you can.
Regular classes
We offer a 50% refund if we receive 2 weeks’ written notice at artsmartprogram@yahoo.com. Registration fees aren’t transferable between participants.
